VANCOUVER FILM SCHOOL
I worked for Vancouver Film School’s Marketing Department from February 2011 to May 2012 as a copywriter and web editor. Without prior marketing experience I won them over with two writing samples, one for Aviary.com and one for The Independent Games Festival.
The VFS Marketing Department is collectively responsible for all web properties, advertising (print, radio, web), marketing collateral, and most course documentation.
As one of two copywriters I was responsible for interviewing alumni and guest speakers for video projects, pitching project ideas, and directing video shoots. We pitched the Perfect Sound campaign after interviewing Sound Design grads and hearing the amazing lengths they go to to capture the right sounds. [Directing, Interviewing]
IN FOCUS MAGAZINE
I pitched the ideas for and wrote two issues of In Focus, VFS’s alumni magazine. For All Work is Play I interviewed 12 Game Design alumni for insight into the current state of gaming.Surface Divers was a special issue for the visual effects conference, SIGGRAPH, where I interviewed three 3D Effects grads at different stages of their careers. The VFS blog reports on student and alumni success, and also acts as the main alumni tracking tool - a major responsibility of the writers. We tried to maintain a daily schedule.
